I have discovered the difficulty of learning Javascript through an online course, particularly when the textbook is less than stellar. I can’t say I’m overly surprised though. I had read the reviews for the textbook on Amazon and there wasn’t a single positive one. It does an alright job of telling you how to do one thing and follow instructions for the examples, but as soon as you need to alter the parameters or code, you’re kind of on your own. If it wasn’t for my knowledge of Java and help from a couple classmates, I don’t think I’d be doing very well. It’s also very difficult to get help or ask questions when you get stuck because of the delayed response and the fact that questions don’t always get fully answered. There’s no conversation and no input, suggestions or questions from classmates that could help as well. A message board can only do so much. I just find that the learning experience itself is better inside a real classroom. Even the online, virtual classrooms aren’t that great. I’ve done some of the virtual classroom stuff before and it’s still not quite the same.

Triumph over HTML and CSS
I feel a sense of triumph now that I finally have my website working the way I want it to. It took some serious thinking and ingenuity but I got it figured out. There’s something like a sense of accomplishment when that happens, particularly when coding does not display the way it should despite repeated efforts to make it work the same on all browsers. Needless to say, I am very satisfied at the moment as I kill time after a graphics/web design test. Admittedly, I also feel a little smug that even though I was late, I was still the first to finish. I suppose that could be a good thing or a bad thing. I just feel as though I did a good job and I can figure things out quicker, but that probably also has a lot to do with the experience I have. I’ve been programming and designing websites since I was in high school and been using Dreamweaver for about 7 years now. Most everyone else in my class has probably only been using it since February/March.
I am also happy to report that with the addition of this blog, I have already updated this site more times this past week than I have in the last 3 months. I am enjoying the new feature and will continue to use it for my personal musings and updates.

Welcome to Kinipela.net. There have been some minor changes lately, including a new layout and this blog for the front page. I’m hoping that this will allow me to keep my site more up to date with information.
For those of you who are following my fictions, I realize I have been a horrible author lately. I’ve been letting my time slip away from me, but there is some good news. I have been working on the latest chapter of A Change In The Wind and I am hoping to get that out by mid-June. As of right now, it’s a long process because I am finishing my last semester of school and that tends to take more priority. Hopefully there won’t be too many more delays.
